Welcome to ICE-CAP's calendar page. We meet bi-monthly through the school year with no summer meeting.

Tuesday, September 21, 2004: General Meeting: 4-6pm at Whitney Young Magnet High School at 211 South Laflin Street - free parking in school lot (enter from Laflin)
We will again welcome Robert Runcie, CPS Chief Information Officer, as our guest speaker! Mr. Runcie will highlight the Office of Technology Services' (OTS) current initiatives, services, and programs and then welcome your questions and comments.

Whitney Young High School is very accessible. There is plenty of parking in their lot on Laflin between Jackson and Van Buren. Enter on Van Buren (one-way west) or Laflin. Note: Jackson is one-way east. Look for signs on the Academic Building doors to find your way to the Main Library.

Monday, November 22 (updated): General Meeting: 4-6pm at Computers for Schools in their warehouse with conference room at 3350 N. Kedzie Ave. Free Parking is available on the street.
Learn about the the Computers for Schools Association, which is a national non-profit dedicated to providing a low cost alternative for achieving technology in the classroom and home! Donated raffle item: refurbished laptop computer!

Learn about the refurbished computer and parts market for your school, about responsible equipment disposal/recycling, and about inexpensive complete systems for student home purchase! Computers for Schools has served the Chicago area since 1997 by being the main source for refurbished computers to schools and non-profits. Nationally, Computers for Schools started in 1992. Computers for School is a "Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher." Computers for Schools staff are very knowledgeable about all computer environments, past and present, with solutions to every situation. In addition, they have a complete inventory of used parts for old equipment repairs.

Computers for School is located in a warehouse with offices on the west side of Kedzie (3200 W.) just north of the Kennedy Expressway. If you are traveling northbound (also considered westbound) on the Kennedy, then exit at Belmont (3200 N.) and drive through Belmont to Kedzie and turn right. If you are traveling southbound (also considered eastbound) on the Kennedy, then exit at Addison (3600 N.) and go east to Kedzie and turn right. There will be plenty of street parking on Kedzie in front of the warehouse. Someone will be at the warehouse entrance to direct you until 4:30 and signs will be posted.

Tuesday, January 18, 2005: General Meeting: 4-6pm at Mozart School at 2200 North Hamlin Ave. (2200 N. and 3800 W.) - free parking in school lot
Our program will highlight state-of-the-art technology options for Apple Computer products featuring Andrew MacKenzie, Apple Systems Engineer, and Ash Hossain, Mac Specialist for CPS. These two Apple experts will answer all questions about Mac computer integration and provide product updates from the MacWorld Expo San Francisco, held January 10-14.

Ash Hossain will also use our meeting as his second "Mac Breakout" session to support Mac users and CPS network integration. Mac computers comprise about 25% of instructional computers in CPS. This meeting will help direct your plans and strategies for 2005 regarding Apple's education initiatives, product trends and partnerships, and extensive website resources. If you are only a Wintel user, then find out how Macs and Wintel computers can co-exist or else how your PC computers compare with Macs. New Apple Computer price lists will be available.

Tuesday, March 15: General Meeting: 4-6pm at The Museum of Science and Industry at 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive (see map to the right). Free parking (by voucher) in underground garage to ICE members. Enter main underground entrance (the Great Hall) and someone will direct you.

PROGRAM
   Sarah Tschaen, Senior Education Coordinator, will highlight the Museum's eLearning "e-suite" videoconferencing room and on-line resources, plus a general website overview. Sarah presented a poster session at IL-TCE 2005.
   Vickei Fisher, expeditions@fieldmuseum Manager in Academic Affairs, from the Field Museum will showcase their on-line education resources. These extensive resources include interactives, exhibits and databases, plus a general website overview and information on teacher material loaning. Vickei presented a break-out session at IL-TCE 2005.
   Shari Summers, Adler Planetarium guide and Oriental Institute volunteer, CPS educator and ICE-CAP officer, will present a brief overview of the Adler's and the Oriental's on-line resources. Shari has presented at IL-TCE conferences.
   All of these museums (plus three more) are part of the Chicago Webdocent website, a project of CUIP (Chicago Public Schools University of Chicago Internet Project).

Please attend our Museum on-line resources showcase on-location at the Museum of Science and Industry in their state-of-the-art "e-suite" videoconferencing room built in 2003. The museum closes at 4pm during its winter schedule. If you would like to browse an exhibit, such as the Networld, or go to the Museum store, you may come as early as 3:40. The museum requests a list of attendees for admission, so you are asked to rsvp for this meeting. Please rsvp by Monday, March 14 to our chapter Secretary at kmsimpson@cps.k12.il.us (Kyna Simpson). If you can't rsvp, we can accomodate some walk-ins. ICE members will receive a free parking voucher at the meeting.

Tuesday, May 17: General Meeting: 4-6pm at Walter Payton High School at 1034 N. Wells St. (200 W.) - free parking in school lot

PROGRAM
Bethany Rudd, Payton technology instructor, will be our host of behalf of the Payton Technology/AV Department. She will give us an overview of Payton's outstanding technology programs and provide a brief tour of their facilities.

Susim Munshi and Susan Switzer will present: Read, Write and Blog - Literacy in the Information Age (see website below)
Description: Thousands join the blogging revolution each week. Experience how teachers and students are using Information Age tools to transform reading and writing for all students. This presentation will begin with a brief overview of blogging terminology, tools for creating blogs, and resources for educational blogs. The presentation will then continue with the sharing of curriculum integration samples of teachers and students who participated in blogging activities in the presents schools. Finally, the challenges, modifications and extensions of this project will be explored. Visit their companion website for educational blogs at Learn2Blog! Next, they will present at NECC in Philadelphia!

Susim Munshi (Area 1 AITC) and Susan Switzer (Area 3 AITC) will also review the role of AITCs (Area Instructional Technology Coaches) and how they support each area, guide technology integration, and coordinate services with the Office of Technology Services.
