Google Pack is a powerful toolbox of free software for web productivity, including a free version of the Sun office suite, StarOffice 8. Joan Kane, Business Teacher at Whitney Young will demonstrate some of these tools that are useful for education. Joan is in her second year teaching business, accounting, and entrepreneurship at Whitney. She earned an MBA at Northwestern University and, last year, achieved National Board Certification in Career and Technical Education. She also is working on her dissertation for a doctorate in instructional technology at Northern Illinois University. Her presentation will focus on curriculum applications for Google Earth and Google Maps. Here are documents from her presentation:
Barbara Beyers is Technology Coordinator at Budlong Elementary and is developing a comprehensive 1-8 "Information-Technology Literacy" curriculum (click on the "Info-Tech Literacy Curriculum by Grade-Level") which she plans to formally present at the 2008 IL-TCE Conference (see below). UPDATE: Barbara also has a link to the Collinsville, IL K-6 Technology Scope and Sequence, which is a key resource. As Barbara implores: "While NETS challenge schools to integrate technology for higher order/creative thinking, the reality is that many of my CPS 5th graders lack basic tech skills. NETS seems unattainable until all students have the same fundamental skill set." To address this gap, Barbara has compiled an Information-Technology Literacy scope and sequence for our constructive feedback. Ms. Beyers would like to present this curriculum to fellow educators for feedback. Based on our group effort, she will develop a core instruction of basic skills, so by 5th grade our students are ready to face higher order problem solving projects as envisioned by NETS.
We will provide two CPDU's for attendance. Refreshments will be served. ICE-CAP invites your chapter participation and leadership. Please spread the word! All are welcome!
